Over the past three years, I have contributed actively to service at the program, department, college, and university levels. Within the ELED program, I have taken on leadership roles in ongoing improvement initiatives, including the development and revision of the ELED key assessment lesson plan rubric and template. I led a multi-person working group to pilot scoring procedures, curated sample plans, and facilitated data-informed discussions at program retreats. I also supported improvements to practicum supervision, including survey design, data analysis, and advocacy for role clarity and new structures for clarity and coherence.
At the department level, I served on a successful faculty search committee in 2024-2025, participating in all phases of the process and taking the lead on organizing meals during campus visits. At the college level, I have served on the Research and Scholarship committee, where I have helped organize the COE contributions to the annual Madison Celebration of Research and Scholarship. In 2024 I conceptualized and co-facilitated a well-attended professional development session on IRB processes featuring guests from across the university. I have also served on the Curriculum and Instructional Design Review (CDIR) committee, supporting course and program revisions. Finally, I've been actively involved in the COE's CAEP accreditation review, working on program-specific key assessments and volunteering to review the self-study and participate in the upcoming visit.
Across these roles, I’ve aimed to bring a critical and collaborative lens to service, asking questions that center inclusive pedagogy and supporting colleagues through resource sharing, mentorship, and co-planning.
My professional service extends across multiple levels. Locally, I have maintained a partnership with Albemarle County Public Schools, contributing to professional development and sharing findings from my inquiry-based social studies research. I’ve also supported local educators through guest lectures, classroom visits, and resource sharing.
At the state level, I’ve supported the Virginia Department of Education with supporting instructional materials following the 2023 History/Social Science standards revision. I support professional organizations such as the Virginia Social Studies Leaders Consortium (VSSLC) through ongoing resource sharing. I have also sought increasing leadership opportunities through Virginia Association of Colleges and Teacher Educators (VACTE) including serving on the VACTE Awards Committee.
Nationally and internationally, I’ve taken on leadership roles with the National Council for the Social Studies (NCSS), including serving as a Program Review Team Lead in 2025, and have reviewed conference proposals for conferences such as NCSS, AERA, CUFA, and LRA. I’ve also reviewed journal submissions for Teaching and Teacher Education, Social Studies and the Young Learner, and other peer-reviewed outlets, receiving recognition for my work.
